Barron River is a discretionary locale of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian condition of Queensland. Made at the 1971 redistribution, it at present covers the northern rural areas of Cairns, and Kuranda. The Barron River from which the electorate infers its name goes through its middle. It is circumscribed by the regions of Cook toward the north and west, Cairns toward the southeast and Mulgrave toward the south. The waterway's unique Aboriginal name is Bibhoora. The stream picked up its ebb and flow name in 1875 when two police sub-examiners, Johnstone and Douglas, named it after Thomas Henry Bowman Barron (around 1835 – 24 June 1882), boss assistant of police in Brisbane. The European disclosure of the waterway was by James Venture Mulligan in 1874.
