Every activity at Shirdi revolves around the vast temple complex dedicated to Sai Baba. Devotees start queuing up in the early hours of dawn to catch a glimpse and seek the blessings of the life-size statue of Sai Baba. There are other places of interest that devotees can visit as well including Dwarkamani Mosque where the Baba meditated and stayed for over half a century and over 100 years ago, he lit a holy fire here, which is still being preserved by devotees. The sound of temple bells and holy chants and sight of lightened lamps and devotees offering prayers transfers one to a world of eternal solace and bliss. Distances can seem exaggerated in Shirdi. What is referred to as the other end of the town is, in reality, a 10-min walk away, through narrow lanes fringed by small stalls selling flowers, sweets, trinkets and even Tibetans here selling woollies.
