Sankar Gompa is simply visited on foot from Leh, lying in Leh's suburbs. About 25 monks of the yellow-hat group are attached to Sankar but only a little live here permanently. From the street one can enters into the gompa's front yard. To the right are a few steps mounting up to the double doors that open onto the main assembly hall or Dukhang. The entrance doorway has different paintings of the Guardians of the Four Directions on either side of the entrance. On the left wall you will find "Wheel of Life" held by Yama, the deity that tells a person's future fate after death. It’s not all about Sankar Gompa, rest you can only experience after reaching there.
