Southern India has a combination of scents of spices, fruits and coconuts. One can experience the charms and rhythms of life in the spice gardens, visit the plantations and walk through magnificent forests. And in Cochin, no visit is complete without a trip to the Jew Town district with its synagogue, narrow streets, antique shops and spice auction houses, some rewarding places to wander. In the old days, spices were harvested in December and January, then dried in the sun for two or three days, roasted and ground. Apart from exploring one of the world’s finest harbors in Cochin, also pop in to the synagogue in the heart of what is known as Jew Town, a mixture of shops, warehouses and spice auction rooms.
