The Taipa Houses-Museum is located at Avenida da Praia in Taipa. Isolated from all the other museums of Macau, the Taipa Houses-Museum is quite different from the other museums of Macau. The complex features five houses each displaying various artifacts and exhibits. The houses were built in 1921. The last restoration was done in 1999. The old colonial residential buildings were restored to recreate the atmosphere of the houses of well-to-do Portuguese families who live in Macao at the beginning of the 20th century. Like most substantial houses of the time, the interior is large, featurein ghigh ceilings, dining and living rooms, halls for games and card playing, kitchens located at the rear of the house, etc. Furnitures and decorations display a fusion of Portuguese and Chinese styles. In addition, what differentiates the Taipa Houses-Museum from the other museums is its environment, its surroundings.
